The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) announced their annual Division I All-Academic Top 30 Teams and Individual All-Academic wrestling team for the 2012-13 wrestling season. This season, Old Dominion University's wrestling program had the eighth highest GPA in the country. Both Chris Mecate and Jacob Henderson were named to the NWCA Division I All-Academic Team.

Old Dominion University volunteer assistant wrestling coach, Kyle Hutter (55 kg/121 lbs) won the Northern Plains Senior Regional in Waterloo, Iowa on Saturday, May 11. Hutter has now earned himself a spot at the U.S. World Team Trials in June in Oklahoma, with a chance to compete at the World Championships later in the year.

Seven members of the Old Dominion University wrestling team volunteered at the 2013 Gospel Arts Festival on Friday, May 10 in Portsmouth, Va. For several hours, wrestlers assisted event organizers and artists in anyway they could and in particular with the setup of this popular event. Proceeds from the festival benefitted Edmarc's Hospice for Children.

Old Dominion University's Kevin Beazley became a double All-American over this past weekend at the 2013 ASICS Junior National Championships in Las Vegas, Nev. Beazley finished up with a Greco Roman National Championship and a fourth place finish in Freestyle at 96 kilograms. Austin Coburn also became an All-American after placing eighth at 79 kg/174 lbs in the Freestyle tournament. In all, ODU had five wrestlers compete in Las Vegas over the weekend.

Volunteers from Old Dominion University's Young Alumni Advisory Committee and ODU Athletics acted as ambassadors for Old Dominion at a local elementary school on Friday, April 12th.

The Colonial Athletic Association announced that Old Dominion University's Chris Mecate was named the 2013 CAA Rookie of the Year. Mecate becomes just the third ODU wrestler to win the award and first since 2008. Mecate finished the season with a 37-9 overall record and went 7-0 in CAA action. He also went on a 12-match winning streak, extending from January 11th until March 21st.

Friday marked Day Two of the 2013 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships at the Wells Fargo Arena is Des Moines, Iowa. 141-pound redshirt freshman, Chris Mecate was the only wrestler that saw action today.

Day one of the 2013 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships kicked off this afternoon in the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa. Old Dominion University has four wrestlers competing in day one action. Chris Mecate picked up the sole win for the Monarchs in Round One.

The Old Dominion University wrestling team will have four wrestlers competing in the 2013 NCAA Division I Championships beginning tomorrow morning at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa. Rob Deutsch (125), Chris Mecate (141), Alexander Richardson (149) and Billy Curling (174) will all be making their first NCAA tournament appearance. Deutsch, Mecate and Richardson are all freshmen for Steve Martin's Monarchs.

The NCAA announced the 330 student-athletes will be participating in the 2013 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. The NCAA also announced the 170 first-round match-ups, as well as the 12 seeded wrestlers within each of the 10 weight classes. The NCAA wrestling tournament will be held on March 21-23 in Des Moines, Iowa.

BOSTON, Mass. - The Old Dominion University wrestling team competed in their final CAA Wrestling Championship throughout Saturday, March 9. Although Old Dominion was not eligible for the team title this year, the Monarchs' 10 wrestlers were be eligible to compete for the 19 automatic NCAA berths.

On March 9, the 2013 CAA Wrestling Championship will be held in the Case Gymnasium on the campus of Boston University. This will be the first time since 2005 that Boston has hosted this conference tournament. 70 wrestlers spread out amongst 10 different weight classes from seven schools will compete for the 19 automatic NCAA Championship berths available to the CAA.

The NCAA announced the qualifier allocations for the 2013 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. The CAA was awarded 19 automatic spots this year.
